Reduction of smooth surface models

Models represented by smooth surfaces (e.g. parametric patches or subdivision surfaces) have a number of advantages over the polygonal models, particularly accuracy and smoothness in any scale level and less data for the model. Highly detailed and accurate models, however, can be still too complex for interactive applications, hence a reduction preserving the overall shape and level-of-details techniques are employed with benefit. The goals of this work are: construction of the smooth model, its progressive reduction (error-driven reduction) and the error estimate for resulting model.
